1.1.4. Unit-Summary

"Animation is the optical illusion of motion created by the consecutive display of images of static elements." (Wikipedia)

According to (1997), there are three main techniques to create animations:

  • Frame by frame animation: Several frames are created and finally combined into an animation.
  • Keyframe animation: Keyframes are created and the inbetweens are automatically created by the computer by interpolating the keyframes.
  • Procedural or algorithmic animation: Whole animation is created by programs

Several graphical attributes can be animated:

  • Colour
  • Opacity
  • Stroke-Width
  • Fill-Pattern
  • Stroke-Pattern
  • Filter Parameter

The geometry and position of objects can be animated as well:

  • Transformation
  • Position
  • Object shape / geometry
