1.1.1. Definition Animation

An early way of animation was the flip-book which can be tinkered by every child: You draw a series of pictures that vary gradually from one picture to the next. You then make a book out of these pages, so that when the pages are turned rapidly, the pictures appear to animate by simulating motion ar some other change.
Here is an example of such pictures:

In computing we already speak of an animation. Therefore, we can define animation as follows:
