1.3.4. Unit-Summary

The data that you located in an earlier step has to be prepared for the application, depending on the application content. Often, the data are too detailed so that we have to manipulate them. The manipulation tasks may be:

  • Generalisation
  • Clipping Specific Regions
  • Merging Data

These operations can be applied to thematic and topographic data.

Finally the processing can be started. The sequence of the various operations depends on the application, but the following operations have to be fulfilled anyway:

  • Realisation of layout with the chosen technique (Flash, SVG, etc.),
  • Implementation of content components (e.g. navigation, buttons, legend, etc.),
  • Programming of interaction parts.

Independent of the application type (web page, multimedia map, etc.) the application has to be tested in various browser softwares (for web applications) and on various platforms, because the appearance and the interactions may vary from browser to browser and from platform to platform.
