1.4.1. Evaluation

The evaluation is the last phase of the development of a multimedia application. Persons which represent the target audience have to test the application for its usability, its functionalities and the understanding of the content.

remark

Especially when having a heterogeneous target audience, it is important to execute the evaluation with various persons which represent each group of the target audience.

The evaluation phase runs through the following loop:

  • 1. Step: Test persons check the application and make suggestions for improvement.
  • 2. Step: Implementation of the most important results from step 1.
  • 3. Step: Test persons check again the application and make again suggestions for improvement.
  • 4. Step: Implementation of the most important results from step 3.
  • And so on

This loop is run through until finally the application fits to the requirement of the target audience.

Evaluation CycleEvaluation Cycle

It is recommended to create a questionnaire which has to be completed by the test persons. General questions about the usability, the understanding of the content or the functionalities ought to be contained by the questionnaire. By doing so, you receive consistent feedback about those parts of the application that you definitely want to be checked. In addition to the prepared questions, the test persons should have the possibility to give individual feedback in the form of writing down some sentences. Therefore, the questionnaire has to contain blank parts which allow this form of feedback.
