Classes and graphical variables

Relevance classes

On a map we want to show the differences amongst points of interest items in relation to how important they are to a user. We can define 3 classes of measurement for relevance.

Relevance class Meaning Example
Binary relevance An POI is either relevant or not A museum is closed or open
Ordered relevance An POI is more or less relevant The distance a POI is from a person
Highly important A POI is of immediate concern An road accident on a route

Graphical variables

Based on the classes, different methods of to change the presentation of the POI and communicate its relevance.
